Did you know you can get up to $10,000 toward hiring an apprentice?

In September 2022, The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum, Aboriginal Apprenticeship Board, Canadian Construction Association, BuildForce Canada, SkillPlan and Apprenticesearch.com launched a program to give employers financial incentives and free training for first year apprentices.

Allowing micro (1-4 employees), small (5-99 employees) and medium (100- 499 employees), businesses to join, the goal of this program is to aid in the hiring and adequate training of Level 1 Apprentices across Canada. With more than 32 trades eligible for the incentives, including but not limited to: welder, roofer, carpenter, plumber and sheet metal worker, this program is likely to help a large population of first year apprentices enter the trades.

The are two main types of financial incentives, either $5,000 or $10,000. The first incentive is $5,000 per apprentice per year for a maximum of two Level 1 apprentices per employer. The second incentive is $10,000 per apprentice per year for a max of two Level 1 apprentices if the apprentice identifies as being from an under-represented group.
